Here is everything you need to know about iOS 27 Partner Finance Lock security feature which Apple has already added, but not mentioned clearly anywhere on their list for public.
Another day, another big news for my community because i believe this is super important for them. I know, most of them already owns a JV or Carrier locked iPhone. So if you are one who is using such device than this one is really important for you. Even if you are planning to get a new one read this thoroughly.
In any case, after upgrading or updating to iOS 27 you may lose you device access and it will act as a brick only. Not even you can sell the parts because they gonna be locked as well to Find My network.
What is Partner Finance Lock in iOS 27
Apple has added a built in system-level feature which allow carriers to lock or blacklist the device for a single reason if the buyer have installment plan with them. Any Carrier can do it remotely it is rolling out with iOS 27 update.
When your iPhone is locked through this system you wont be able to use it normally. Instead you may see a new screen on your device which says something like this.
“This iPhone is under contract and cannot be sold”
Thanks to Aaron or 9to5mac because they revealed a piece of code from iOS 27 beta earlier in July. For testing this feature, I personally bought an iPhone which had Sim Restrictions and updated that one.

What Happens if device is locked?
You will see a lockscreen with a notification on the device and you cant use it, making it a brick. Here is what happens.
If you miss a installment or carrier is unable to charge you, there will be an automatic request which will be sent to Apple for locking your device. You may be able to use it for emergency calling or nothing. Once you pay the due installment or want to pay fully to avoid interruption, you will be able to use it back fully.
It is similar to how the carriers already lock the device to network, but you can expect this as a payment lock not carrier lock anymore, thats how it’s changing now.
Does this affects all iPhone around the Globe?
No, this doesn’t affect all the iPhone around the globe. This only applies to device which are carrier locked and bought on installment plan. For example, you bought iPhone 17 Pro Max on contract from T-Mobile. If you are unable to pay the monthly installment as per contract the request to Apple will be initiated to lock that device.
If you bought an iPhone while purchasing as “Connect to Any Carrier Later” or fully paid, its completely safe and fine.
Is it legal and legit?
Yes, its completely legal and legit. When you are buying an iPhone from carrier on contract or installment you have signed an agreement already. The carriers have full rights with help of iOS 27 to lock this device on some basis.
Apple building this directly into iOS 27 to make it more reliable and harder to bypass than previous software based methods.
Should You be Worried?
If you are paying the amount on due date as per commitment on contract, you shouldn’t get worried. This feature will never be activated on your device. Even if so, you should contract your carrier with proof of purchase.
Unless you are not paying, you will see warnings on your device as a notification that you need to pay the pending dues. When there are warnings, your device will be locked automatically without more warnings.
What Should You Do If you have a JV or Carrier Locked Device?
That’s the main concern of this post today. So, if you have a carrier locked device or even if your device says Sim Restricted here is what makes sense before updating to iOS 27:
Make sure you have fully paid or even paying on time as per contract date. Do not upgrade your iPhone to iOS 27 if you are not sure about this.
Also Road: How to Check iPhone is Carrier Locked or Not
Since JV or carrier locked phones are popular in South Asia, especially in India and Pakistan there will be huge line of people complaining about this. This is why I wanted to share this big update with you guys. I recommend you guys not to buy such device right now or strictly turn off automatic updates on your device.
The bottom line
Partner finance lock is real and it is coming with iOS 27. It changes the stake for anyone with a financed phone. Pay installment on time and this feature is invisible to you forever. If you are using a carrier locked device, now is a good time to review your iPhone contract and pay the old payments if pending.
