Visited: Hunza in 2017 and 2021 · Prices: as of today · Last checked: October 2026

Hunza has so many famous places that it is easy to spend a day on the wrong ones. These are the sights I would spend time on, the one I would only look at, and the one I would not cross. They come from my own visits to Hunza in 2017 and 2021, and the prices are as of today.

Eagle’s Nest: my must-do at dawn or dusk

Eagle’s Nest is a point in Hunza with hotels and a restaurant. I went there for the views. You can enjoy both the sunrise and the sunset from this one spot, and you can see many peaks at the same time, including Rakaposhi, Ultar Sar, Diran Peak, Ladyfinger Peak and Golden Peak. I do not know the names of all of them, but there are more. That is why it is such a famous point.

If you only do one thing in Hunza, I would do this, at dawn or at dusk.

Attabad Lake: give it 3 hours

At Attabad Lake you can ride a jet ski. It costs about PKR 2,500 to 3,000 today, and the ride lasts about 5 minutes. You can also have fries, pakora and snacks there.

I think 3 hours at Attabad Lake are enough. Take a deep breath and enjoy the views.

Passu Cones

The Passu Cones view is something you should enjoy. It is one of the sights I would not skip in Hunza.

Hussaini Bridge: look, but do not cross

Hussaini Bridge looks scary, and you need real nerve to cross it. I do not recommend crossing it, because you have no reason to go to the other side. It is only a small village for the locals of Hunza.

It is a well-known sight, so a short stop to look at it is enough.

Khunjerab Pass: what is at the top

I went to the Khunjerab border on my first visit to Hunza in 2017. The roads are fully developed, like a highway, and you do not need any ID or pass.

At the top there are public toilets, a view of the valley, and the border with a gate. There are no shops. There is snow on the mountains all year, but the road is clear in the summer months.

It is always cold up there, because of the altitude of 4,693 metres (15,397 feet) above sea level, and it was cold in the morning when I went.

There is nothing to do at Khunjerab Pass except take some pictures for memories. The oxygen level is low, so you can only stay for about 10 to 15 minutes at most, and the change in air pressure can give you a headache. Keep paracetamol with you. If you have asthma, do not go. I am not a doctor, so talk to yours if you have any medical condition.

When to go

June, July and August are the best months for Hunza overall, because the roads up to Khunjerab are clear. They are also the most crowded months, so April and May are calmer. My best time guide has the full picture.

How I would plan a day

  • Sunrise: Eagle’s Nest.
  • Morning: Attabad Lake, for about 3 hours.
  • Afternoon: a short stop at Hussaini Bridge, and the Passu Cones view.
  • Only if you have time and no breathing problems: Khunjerab Pass, for 10 to 15 minutes.

This is my own suggested order, from the places I know. Check the distances and the road before you leave.
